Hand in Hand Foundation
The Hand In Hand Foundation was endowed in 1993 by President Árpád Göncz. His wife, Mrs. Göncz has served its Board of Trustees as Chair ever since. The aim of the foundation is to help children and adults with mental and multiple disabilities, to ensure them the opportunity to live in a humane environment at home or elsewhere. The foundation employs special teachers and other experts from related fields. It operates a nationwide information service that gives up-to-date information about services available for handicapped people. In 1997 it initiated the so-called ’Nest-Programme’ (Fészek Program), with the aim of setting up a network of small and friendly homes for young handicapped adults who grew up in their families but long for independence. The foundation takes part in several European projects and has started many of its own.
